Some old life drawing

New Wordplay on the Block

This spread was for an article in the Guardian newspaper about new words entering the English language, I just got a Holga a few days before I started it, maybe I used it a bit too much, but I do love the images you get from them.

Article Illustrations

These are a couple of paper, card and acetate illustrations for magazine articles.
The Chelsea hotel was a popular location for artists, musicians and writers to stay in New York.
This one was for an article on whether vegetarians are smarter than people who eat meat.

Calligram

Blow Up

Drawing with a needle

Here's some of my sewing, its slow work but worth the effort. I really like the loose ends.

And here I used this technique for an idea for a cover of Print magazine. The idea behind this was that "the artist should be from the crowd but not of the crowd" I can't remember who said that.

Guinness: Pure Genius

Walk on the Wild Side

This project was to design an illustration to a company the lyrics of the Lou Reed song Walk on the Wild Side for a book of lyrics. The song is about a group of people who hung out at Andy Warhol's Factory, three of them were trannies and one was a rent boy.
I played about with merging and layering their faces, as they were about changing their identities . But then started thinking about taking images and changing them to add a bit of humour. This first one was influenced by a drawing by Andy Warhol, the smoke is a calligram of the song lyrics. This one was about combining high culture (the three graces) with low culture (toilet knobs).
